Building Assistant, Criss Library - Starting at $11.00 - $11.50 hourly depending on qualifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Building Services: Plans or assists in planning building projects and work assignments, and student worker schedules. Designs/assists with the designing of spreadsheets for routine stacks maintenance - to include range walks, shelf reading, and library collection rolls. Maintains shelving and quality assurance statistics and reports in an accurate and timely manner. Actively participants in space planning activities. Accomplishes or assists in accomplishing building projects including assembling and moving furniture and equipment, stacks construction and hanging signs. Regularly and consistently checks and updates repair items through the Library's FIXIT system, including follow-up of items assigned to others. Provides daily and weekly reports to Building Services Manager regarding tasks and items of interest. Supervision: Supervises up to 15 student workers throughout the work week. Review student worker timesheet data and make necessary adjustments. Ensures student workers receive adequate supervision. Assigns tasks, projects work, as well as coordinating shelving and audits. Responsible for the training and supervision of student assistants including hiring, scheduling and approved disciplinary actions. Leads students by example, included but not limited to: picking up library materials used in-house, sorting and re-shelving library materials, shelf reading, shelf auditing, general library collection, and straightening furniture and stacks. Responsible for monitoring student worker attendance and maintaining point logs for each student. Including reporting statistics to the Building Services Manager. Security & Building Emergencies: Acts as first respondent to medical emergencies, security concerns, patron complaints, and building emergencies. Assists with conceptualization, design, modification, and enforcement of policies and regulations concerning orderly public behavior in the library including food, drink, and noise. Quality Checks & Services: Regularly performs inspections on public media equipment, electronic resources, and timers to ensure proper function of each device. Prepares and updates checklists and logs information. Reports non-functioning items and conducts follow-up to ensure timely repairs.
Additional Duties:
Serves on library and university committees as required. • Participates in cross-departmental projects within the library. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Required Education: High school education or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills may be acquired. May lift, carry, push or pull up to 100 lbs. Exposure to machinery, tools, temperature changes, dust, fumes, and chemicals may occur. Supervisory experience preferred.
